I work close to a mall. We had a tremendous amount of snow over the weekend, which delayed shopping for a lot of people in the area. Today seemed to be the day they decided to catch up. I left work at 2:30, usually more than enough time to get to school to pick up the kids. (It takes me about 5-7 minutes to get to work, and closer to 5 to get home due to the time I travel.) Today it took me 30 minutes to get out of the parking lot at work. And, naturally, I forgot to grab my cell phone when I left the house this morning. I'm feeling anxious because I will now be late to get the kids. Thankfully my friend can grab them for me. But, I have no way of letting her know my situation.
As I sat at a light, I looked at the SUV in front of me. The light turned red, I hopped out and knocked on the window of the champagne colored Escapade. I startled the driver, but she gladly lowered the window and offered me her cell phone after I blubbered my story to her. Of course, by now the light turns green and cars are starting to honk. She and I pulled over (not an easy task due to the crappy job the township did with plowing) and I was able to make my call. I ended up being 15 minutes late.
Her kindness will not be forgotten. She could have easily ignored me, said she didn't have a cell, or just driven off after the light turned green, but she didn't. And, I'm thankful for that.
If by some strange chance the driver reads this...it was about 3pm on Clements Bridge Road in Deptford. I'll pay your kindness forward.

Today my mom and I headed out to the Pioneer Woman's book signing at Chester County Book and Music Company. We got there early, anticipating a large crowd. There were stacks of books all over--and what a beautiful book it was! Amazing pictures, funny stories, and of course the recipes complete with step-by-step photos.
We decided to have lunch, and then we'd go to the area where Ree would be signing the books. Mom and I lingered over lunch for a while, and then headed to the signing area. When we got there, we were amazed that all the seats seemed to be full! And, people were whispering about their numbers. Mom and I didn't have a "number"--we had our copies of the book and a tag that proved we purchased them.
Mom found an employee who confirmed that we'd need a number. She asked us to follow her and she gave us a number. #39! We were able to find two seats together and waited. The ladies behind us were commenting that they'd probably take a rest since their numbers were in the 120s. We really lucked out!

I've read in a few places online about freezer paper and how it makes a great stencil. The shiny side will adhere to any fabric once ironed, and peels away easily when you're done with it. I made a shirt for my daughter, and decided to give these tote bags a try as teacher gifts this year.
I used my Cricut with the Printing Press cartridge and cut out the letters of the teacher's name on freezer paper.
Shiny side down, I ironed the letters where I wanted them.
Then, using fabric paint and a stiff brush, I filled in the stencil with a thin layer of paint. If you gob it on, the paper will lift and your image will not have sharp lines.
Then, after it dried, I removed the paper and heat set the paint according to the directions on the bottle.
This was so easy! And, you don't need a Cricut, you can print directly on the flat side of the freezer paper and use an Exacto knife to cut out your desired image.
Give it a shot...link me to your results!

I can see! The "overnight" contacts that I talked about here and here really worked!
I can see without contacts or glasses. My vision is definitely better outside. Inside, there's a bit of cloudiness, but otherwise, it's clear. I am so excited!
The uncomfortableness, for lack of a better word, of wearing the hard lenses at night is easing. It's a matter of getting used to them, and since I go right to bed after they're in...it's not that big of an issue.
I've been telling everyone--and I'll be happy to tell you more about my experience with these lenses.
Can't thank my eye doc enough, and I'm so thankful that my sister-in-law told me about these lenses.
I CAN SEE!!!

Part One
Last night I put the lenses in. I won't lie, it was uncomfortable. Let's say that I was really aware that something was on my eye. Lots of tears--which is normal--and I found it helped to bend my head down and look at the ground while I adjusted to the feeling. I went to bed excited to see in the morning. It was about 10:30pm.
I woke up around 6:30, opened my eyes, and I could see. That's so not normal for me! Anyway, I put rewetting drops in my eyes immediately, and stayed in bed for a bit. I got up at seven and took them out. It's a really neat process to take them out. I opened my eyes really wide, bent my head forward, tugged on the outer corner of my eye and blinked. The lens popped right out into my hand. Popped the other lens out...and it was time to see if they worked.
I walked into my room and I could see. A bit blurry, but better than usual. My left eye had better vision, and the right eye was not as good. My first follow-up appointment was at 8:30am.
My eye doctor did his tests and it showed that these lenses did not sit properly on my eye. When we did the initial fitting, they were fine. He's guessing that once I fell asleep, they moved a bit. So, we're ordering a new size and will give this a try in a few weeks.
Even though the results were not perfect, I am really excited by the prospect of being able to see during the day without glasses or contacts. Even this slight change was promising. I'll post more when the new size comes in.

I'm ditching the contacts-all-day routine. Back in April, my sister-in-law told me about these contacts she's trying. She wears them at night, takes them out in the morning, and she can see all day without contacts or glasses. The idea intrigued me. I've worn contacts for well over 10 years and they've become such a habit. But, I wanted to give this new deal a try.
Luckily, a very close friend of mine is married to an eye doctor. I talked with him about these contacts and he was very interested in trying them out and offering them as part of his practice. I went in for the exam and it turns out that I am a good candidate for these lenses.
Today was my initial fitting. These contacts are smaller than traditional lenses, and they're "hard". I've never worn hard lenses before.
I'll write again when I have the first morning experience...
